Hangar Re-Roofing and Refurbishment.

HMS Gannet SAR Flight is a Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm squadron based at RNAS Prestwick in Scotland. It operates three Sea King Mk5 helicopters in the military and civilian Search and Rescue role across Scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland.

The crews cover an area from Ben Nevis in the north, the Isle of Man and the Lake District to the south, east to Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth and the Borders, west to Northern Ireland. James Strang Ltd undertook works to overhaul the main Hangar buildings at Prestwick in late 2013, completely re-roofing the facility and external re-painting to give the tired exterior a new lease of life.

In addition, the main taxiway was re-surfaced with fuel resistant asphalt and the helipad markings reinstated. The project was adversely effected by high winds throughout and great care had to be taken in the management and safeguarding of the workforce and base personnel as the buildings remained operational during works. In total approx. 6500m2 of roof-space was re-sheeted whilst the vital base operations remained uninterrupted
